Unsung Hero Award

An Unsung Hero is someone who donates their time and/or talents to a cause without the expectation of recognition or reward. The Adventure Café’s Unsung Hero Award is our chance to shine a light on those who make meaningful contributions to causes in the Mother Lode. Please click here and fill out our nomination form.

A rule of thumb – we will be looking for volunteers who tend to do their work behind the scenes rather than those who are in positions of leadership. Thank you for contributing!

April’s Unsung Hero is Matt Sydney nominated by the Graham family: It has been a big challenge over the last 23 years to find people that could do the very detailed job of caring for our autistic son. You have to be a very dedicated, willing, caring  and open person to take this on. Matt has been that and is here for us and our son full time every week. Matt has stepped up to the plate to help us in providing our son with the best life possible. They have a beautiful bond that has taken a lot of patience, education and time on Matts part. He helps Dustin with learning all the day to day things to become more independent. Matt is a crucial part to our sons life, and also has gotten Dustin to do direct drawing, picking up recycling at the café and playing games to name a few. He is a true inspiration of what an unsung hero is to come in everyday to help this young man grow and live a full life.
