The Winter Weather Advisory issued for the Sierra Nevada mountains will remain in effect until 4 PM Wednesday.
Heavy snow is forecast.
According to the National Weather Service, the heaviest snow is expected from this afternoon into Wednesday morning.
The snow levels will be rising to around 6,000 to 7,000 feet by late this morning and afternoon, before dropping to around 5,500 feet Wednesday.
The total snow accumulations above the 5,500 foot elevation, will range from three to six inches. Above the 6,000 foot elevation, expect eight inches to one foot. Finally, above the 7,000 foot elevation, the total snow accumulations will range from one to two feet. The higher you go, the more the snow.
Winds will gust from forty to fifty mph, at the higher elevations.
Mountain travel could be very difficult through Wednesday morning. Be prepared for slippery roads. Slow down and use caution while driving. Plan for travel delays and chain controls. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
